Duchessa Margherita

Description

The Historic House Duchessa Margherita

The beauty of this exclusive, elegant and reserved property is unique. If only you approach the windows and pull the curtains aside: you will be enchanted by a landscape of elegant hills from which the impressive elliptical dome of the Sanctuary of Vicoforte stands out together with the Monastery of the Cistercian Monks and the complex of buildings which surrounds the church square.

Enter history

Carlo Emanuele I married Caterina, Infanta of Spain, and they had ten children. The Historic House was built for Margherita, their eldest daughter, who was so devoted to Vicoforte to leave a considerable legacy to the Cistercian Monks when she died. Each room of the house is dedicated to a member of the royal family. Entering this house is like plunging into the history of the Savoy dynasty.

The splendour restored

The house was built around the middle of the Nineteenth century, before the four bell towers were added to the sanctuary. This is the place where the family of Vittorio Mantelli and Antonietta Dardanelli lived until their death in 1973. The house was then closed and it fell into disrepair.

In 2009 it was bought by its present owners and restored it to its original splendour, with precious antique furniture, fireplaces and refined furnishings.

None of the rooms is similar to another. Each of them has got a special planimetry, original antiques and a unique atmosphere; every room has a wooden floor, beds with ergonomic mattresses, a period fireplace, a shower or a hydro massage bath. One of the rooms has got a balcony overlooking the hills, one is fitted with a golden mirror, one can boast a Louis XVI style chest of drawers, and there is also a small suite with a dressing room.

A versatile structure Duchessa Margherita can host company and business meetings for small groups (22 seats). An agreement with a catering firm allows us to organize outdoor private parties and receptions during the summer, lunches and dinners for ceremonies and special occasions, coffee breaks and business lunches. In the evenings tastings of renowned wines paired with traditional local dishes are often organized.

Dedicated to taste lovers...

The staff at the reception will be ready to assist you in booking a restaurant suitable to your tastes or in choosing among the different food-and-wine proposals selected for you. The wide range of choices features various options.

The genuine Piedmontese cuisine may also be appreciated at Il Groglio in an old farmhouse now renovated, where meals are served outside in summer under the porch or by the wonderful swimming pool.

A stop in the village of Vicoforte will offer the opportunity of enjoying the high quality pastry at Caffè Portici or Pasticceria Drai. The small shops under the arcades around the square will provide typical local products and souvenirs.

... and to keen sportsmen

During the winter small groups of people will be offered a bus service to the Rastello - Turra ski resort in the wonderful Mondolè Ski area.
