Asilo Masi is located in the historic centre of Capannoli between Pisa and Volterra. It offers a truly unique hospitality experience.

It all started when the Countess Cristina Gotti Lega combined her passion for decor and true Tuscan hospitality to create a jewel-like upscale B&B that offers luxurious comforts in the privacy of a truly historic residence.

Imagine yourself enjoying the silence of the Tuscan countryside; candlelit dinners in a quiet garden with centennial live trees; a glass of chilled white wine while sitting in the lavish Jacuzzi pool.

You will enjoy the exceptional local cuisine inspired by gastonomical itineraries of Asilo Masi’s resident Chef.

In all our rooms you will find: King size bed, safe, air conditioning, heating system, shower or bathtub, Penhaligon products, a kettle with a selection of tea and coffee, Wi-Fi, open bar.

History of the building

The building, which is located in front of Saint Bartholomew Abbey in the historic centre of Capannoli, was first erected during the 18th century when the Masi family  used it as a farmhouse on its estate. Later with the years Giovanni Masi decided to give the building to the Nuns of Capannoli for them to use as a Kindergarten, and when this scope would have been terminated the building would have returned to the Gotti Lega family.

The Gotti Lega family

The Gotti Lega family is of Etruscan origin and blossomed in Volterra starting from the 10th century, expanding then in Lajatico, Pisa, Capannoli, Orciatico and Rome. Guido di Gotario was made Ambassador by Pope Callistus II while visiting Volterra and was also given the honour of receiving the Bishops who would establish themselves in Volterra and to hand over to them the keys to the city.

In 1267 Guido was responsible for making Volterra a Guelph city by establishing a new Government. The Gotti family, aside from being a member of the “White Book” of the Great and Noble families of Volterra, also gave the city 96 Priors.

In 1826 with a Ducal Rescript the family was admitted to the Patritiate of Volterra. With the wedding between Enrichetta Lega and Achille Gotti, the Lega family became extinct but still added its name to the Gotti family, becoming the Gotti Lega family.
